for garrett

whenever i hear of an accident claiming someones life, my heart shatters into a billion pieces. this is not because i don't have a knowledge of an after life, but because i know exactly what the family is feeling. i've been down that road before. in fact, im still traveling that road. monday night i received a call from kels telling me that one of her friends was killed on his motorbike earlier that night. as i sat on the phone trying to calm her down and be all the comfort i can, i couldn't hold the tears back as she whispered, "i've decided my life isn't fair. he's my friend, kayla. he's my friend. why do i have to go through these things? my life has been poop the past 2 years." even though i never knew garrett, i love him for his example, especially to my sister. kels and i love boys that ride bikes or sleds, so it's this automatic respect that we have. as my parents & kels went to visit his parents tuesday night, his mom told kelsey, "garrett was always so worried about you. he cared for you a lot, and he said that you were never the same after josh's accident." as his family sat and sobbed at my parents presence, my heart breaks. i hurt, because they hurt. how grateful i am for the knowledge that i have and for the gospel. i'd like to think that josh and garrett have already found eachother, that josh is teaching him the gospel, that they are riding motorbikes together, and that josh takes that 8th grader under his wing.

my heart goes out to the thiel family at this time & forever.
we all love you, garrett! you will be missed!
