so im currently in my 4th semester at BYU-I. that means i'm pretty much half way done. YEEHAW! anyway, i am in an early field experience class. twice a week i get to go into a 5th grade class at the middle school to observe, help, and sooner than later we will begin teaching lessons while we're there. i go with two different girls, and we have a lot of fun. i really enjoy being with the kids. they seriously say THE darndest things. i've seen kids tip over in desks, girls braiding each others hair in the middle of a lecture, the frequent fliers (aka...the ones who ALWAYS have to go to the bathroom), the kids who struggle & get down on themselves because they think they can't learn, 5th grade love (yeah, i think the cooties are beginning to dissolve), and the MOST enthusiasm when it comes to american history & geography.
i. love. it.
whoever said that being an elementary school teacher is "glorified babysitting" was wrong. it takes so much time, dedication, and A LOT of smiling. if i've learned one thing so far in this class, it's that it's worth it. it's like the job that keeps on giving. sure, you may want to pull your hair out at times, and it's really, REALLY hard, but who DOESN'T want to make a difference?
this is how i choose to do so.
