MIA...but not really

it's me. i'm here. and in case you were wondering, yes i'm still alive...obviously. things have been going fabulous in the life of kayla. i say that because i don't really have much to complain about.

this is good

this past friday was pa's birthday, so i headed down to IF to celebrate. mom pulled off a surprise birthday for dad, and he didn't even have a clue. i'm sure he knew something was up and different, but he was surprised. SUCCESS! brian higgs called to him to go get a pop, and off
they went to drive around and...do what boys do, i guess. instead of taking him home he took him to the passino's house where some family and friends were gathered. all he could say when he walked in was, "you could have at least let me change my clothes! i'm
in my work boots!" it was fun and so great to see everyone! and this is what marty gave dad....

BABY CHICKS! yes...we are now chicken farmers. aren't they so cute? 6
yellow, 6 black. whatever are we going to do with ourselves now?

i'm really enjoying classes right now too. everyone was right when they said school would get better once i got out of generals and into my major/core cla
sses. it's so excellent. i am in an integrated science class this semester. twice throughout the semester you are given a chance to teach a 15 minute lesson on some type of science. (because we are all el ed majors) it is
essentially a little science experiment. so for about a month straight we do 3 or 4 fun labs during our lab slot of class. it's SO fun! we've done things like homemade ice cream, dropped
fruit in water to measure water displacement, used pian
o tuning forks to measure sound waves, watched how dish soap makes the fat in milk freak out, and made oobleck/silly putty. it's quite excellent. for my most recent lab we made raisins, noodles, and corn dance. you just get 7-up or sprite and put your goods in the cup and watch the magic. the bubbles from the carbonation attach to the surface of the object and because the bubbles are less dense, they carry the object to the top. it's actually pretty cool to watch and the whole class got in an uproar about it. :) so fun. here's a picture from the top of a cup looking down.
not the best quality...but you'll be just fine.

(they're floating, okay?!)

so yes, school is great. it will all be over in about 31 days. (but who's counting?) that is absolutely CRAZY! there is still so much to get done, but it will be soo soo soo nice to bring another semester to a close. and then my summer vacation will be underway. (YESSSS!) it will start off the BEST because of a wedding & a missionary coming home. whoop whoop!

my roommate & i have recently gotten into truffle making...and they are DIVINE! we're going to have to start getting back to the gym if we keep up our betty crocker skills. in this picture we have milk chocolate truffles, white chocolate truffles, milk chocolate/white chocolate popcorn, and white chocolate popcorn. and then it was time to watch pocahontas & bond over such delicious treats. BOOYAH!

these are all our little treats outside to cool & set up. oh, and then part of my beautiful roommate. :)

and then i dream of getting a new car. like this one on ksl...

i still work every saturday at the pharmacy, so i'm home every weekend. it's nice to be able to do that. not many people still work at their high school jobs in college. i've been there 4 years. what a lucky girl. coming home calls for much hanging out and also bonding time with the fam...and kels. i love her. :)

and then i watch videos like this at the middle school with the 5th graders. and it's so fun to see them cry and giggle over it. i love what i'm doing. :)

and THAT is what i have been up to. kind of MIA...kind of not...but all is well in the life of me :)
